What is the central idea of your concentration? (500 characters maximum)

The central idea of my concentration is a design of the eye as a reflection into one’s self. Eyes are the way of looking into a person’s true feelings as they progress from a young, innocent mind, to an older, wiser mind. Eyes are how we view and perceive the world around us, and as we grow older, we begin to see more of the fatalities of the world. By using color to demonstrate optimism and cheerfulness, and the lack of color to demonstrate innocence, I symbolize the mentality of a person.

How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples. When referencing specific images, please indicate the image numbers. (1350 characters maximum)

In my concentration, I use color and the lack of color to symbolize the mentality of my person. I use the lack of color in the beginning photos to demonstrate the innocence when we are young and the lack of knowledge we have about the world. As my concentration progresses, bright and hopeful colors appear, symbolizing the development of our brains as we learn a little more about the world and we begin to be hopeful and cheerful with our optimistic mentality. As my images develop, the colors begin to be darker, demonstrating how our view of the world charges and gets grimmer as we learn more about the darkness in the world. My concentration depicts how as time passes, our souls become older, and our optimism fades. For example, in my final image, I erase any trace of color, showing how darkness can overcome a person as they age and learn about the fatalities of our earth.
